The Brick Clergy Association is meeting up at the Brick Presbyterian Church on Drum Point Road, to pack 10,000 meals that will be going to schools and orphanages overseas. Rabbi Robert Rubin of Temple Beth Or said they're working with relief group Stop Hunger Now.

"They give us the food items, rice, dried vegetables, vitamins, the plastic bags and the equipment to package them. They tell us how much to put in of each and they make an assembly line out of it."

Rubin said Stop Hunger Now ships more than 41 million meals to 31 countries, including Haiti, Liberia, Honduras, Swaziland, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Belize, to name a few. The meals are sent to schools, orphanages and community development programs.

"Most of their meals are therefore served at schools. So that encourages kids to come to school and get a good meal, a basic meal at the same time," said Rubin.

Rubin said clergy association members shared the 29-hundred dollar cost of the meals but the public can fund more meals if they want at .29 cents each.

Volunteers of any age can participate at no cost but they ask that young children be accompanied by a parent. They're asking that you bring a nonperishable food item with you to donate to local food pantries as well.

Rubin said if they get an overflow of volunteers this year, like they did last year, they've also set up another side project. There will be a table where volunteers can help fill out greeting cards that will be sent to troops overseas.

Congregations participating in the event are Brick Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church of Laurelton, Laurelton Park Baptist Church, Osbornville Baptist Church, Orthodox Christian Church of the Annunciation, St. Paul's United Methodist Church, St. Raphael's Episcopal Church, St. Thomas Lutheran Church and Temple Beth Or.
