It wasn't just that someone broke into a Howell shop owned by a longtime township family, or that it was just before Christmas. The capper is that the thief stole their $26 in framed "good luck" money right off the wall, according to police.

Little information has surfaced since the December 21 incident at Twin Pond Farms Country Store, but police are determined to root out the culprit out of deference to the DeGregorios who operate it.

They're asking anyone with knowledge of the burglary to reach them.

It was during the night of December 21, and the suspect in jeans and a blue hooded jacket smashed the glass front door to gain entry, police said. In the frame, near the register, was paper money bearing legends including "good luck" and "start to finish."

Souvenir cash in hand, the burglar ran into a patch of woods that leads to Overlook Terrace, Midland Boulevard, Stuart Street and other residential blocks, police said.

In a post on the department's Facebook page, Chief Andrew Kudrick noted the family's "...strong roots in Howell. They absolutely work hard to make their business succeed. They are always willing to help others in need. Now, it's time to help them."
