The rain and freezing temperatures are making all forms of travel extremely hazardous - including walking!

A thin layer of black ice has formed on road surfaces, sidewalks, parking lots - just about everything.

The conditions have caused hundreds of car accidents and fender-benders this morning. Until the temperatures rise, you practically need a helmet just to walk anywhere. In Jackson Township, the school buses are running way behind schedule. Police have ordered them off the roads until de-icing is completed.

Ocean County 911 is swamped with telephone calls. Sheriff Mike Mastronardy tells Townsquare Media News that at least 30 of the calls involve medical response and the Brick Township Police are on Princeton Avenue in the Township tending a pedestrian accident that looks serious.

Everyone driving right now is urged to use caution and give yourself plenty of braking time.

This is a developing story. Check back soon for additional details.
