According to information from the office of County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato, the incident is believed to have occurred at about 2 PM during a large off-road gathering hear the "TBS Pit" in the township, a short distance from Pinewood Estates. Barnegat police were first notified at about 10 PM by a caller who had been hurt, authorities said.

The victim, interviewed at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, told investigators that an off-road-vehicle, possibly with a woman at the wheel, veered out of control and plowed into the crowd in the wooded spot.

The individual had been transferred from Southern Ocean Medical Center in Stafford, where Barnegat police had been told that possibly five people had been driven for treatment.

Major Crime Unit Detective Mitch Remig is handling the case and can be reached anonymously and confidentially at 732-929-2027.
