Jackson Township Board of Education members vote to hire an interim schools superintendent. Officials said they selected Dr. Cheryl Simone Tuesday because she has experience working with districts of similar size. Simone will temporarily replace Superintendent Lu Anne Meinders who announced her retirement last month due to health concerns after only a year in the post.

School district officials said Simone has 11 years of experience as a superintendent, serving the South Hunterdon Regional High School District as well as the Washington Township School District after serving as a career teacher and school administrator.

According to a written statement, Jackson Board of Education President Barbara Fiero said "the search for a new superintendent is going well, but we need someone to get us through this period of transition.'' "Dr. Simone brings with her a wealth of administrative experience - including experience in a district with an enrollment and a budget that is similar to Jackson - and we are confident in her ability to guide us as we continue our search.''

Meinders leaves the district on Tuesday April 1st.
