The crash unfolded at about 7:35 AM Tuesday on Bayview Avenue. According to township police, Shane Kriegstein, 28, of Bayville, told them that he dropped his wallet while behind the wheel of his 2012 Jeep Patriot and reached to the cabin floor to retrieve it.

The Jeep rammed a utility pole, spun over a curb, hit a mailbox, flipped onto its roof, continued skidding into another mailbox, and finally stopped in the front yard of a house.

Kriegstein declined medical attention. Residual damage included a 2015 Nissan Altima in a driveway, electric wires separated from two adjoining houses, a snapped sewer lateral, and the two mailboxes, police said.

He was cited for careless driving.
