From strawberry festivals to wine tastings, the Jersey shore offers lots of activities for the entire family to enjoy this summer.

“A lot of towns have added new attractions, are stepping up their dining experiences and have transformed themselves to more family-oriented places for the summer” said Ken Schlager, editor of New Jersey Monthly Magazine, which June issue hits stands soon.

He says there’s been a big turnaround in the victorian town of Cape May.

“They have been known for their bed-and-breakfasts, the quiet town at the end of the parkway…but these days they have some outdoor bars, they renovated their outside mall in town and have new hotels for people to stay, all attracting a much more youthful crowd of 20 -somethings.”

Schlager says there are lots of activities and festivals happening in the month of June.

“The Lighthouse Festival in LBI, RiverFest in Red Bank, the Seafood Festival in Belmar and the Strawberry Festival in Cape May. There are lots of family friendly events all month long” said Schlager.

Where to eat? There’s plenty of that too up and down the Jersey shore.

“Of course the traditional boardwalk stops to get your favorite pizza, ice cream and french fries still top the list…but if you’re looking for more upscale restaurants, Asbury Park and Long Branch have added a lot of new places with different cuisine and fresh seafood.”

If outdoor activities aren’t your thing, there are also plenty of things to do indoors as well.

“The New Jersey Martitime Museum is open in Beach Haven and the Shore Institute of Contemporary Art has exhibits and performances in Long Branch and Asbury Park.”
