With Christmas right around the corner, you may not be thinking much about the beach.

But you really do not have to wait until the start of summer to buy a beach tag. In fact, you can make a holiday gift of them.

Years ago, some shore towns were selling gift certificates for beach tags. But since 2010, Sea Isle City has been marketing holiday beach tags.

"They make wonderful gifts, and as you can imagine, they sell very, very well," city spokeswoman Kathleen Custer said. "It costs $20 in Sea Isle city. That's a preseason rate. They can be used all summer long to enjoy the beaches here in Sea Isle."

Custer said people really love them.

"They are great gifts, wonderful stocking stuffers, and for the past six years, we have been making a lot of people happy with the gift tags."

She said Sea Isle City also offers a Polar Bear tag in February, which coincides with their Polar Bear Plunge. In March, it sells a St. Patrick's Day-themed beach tag.

The tags have also have become collectors' items.

"I have seen people with years and years of beach tags on their umbrellas and on their hats, hanging in their homes," Custer said.

Custer said a number of other shore towns are also selling the holiday beach tags right now, including Avalon, Stone Harbor, Longport, Long Beach and Ship Bottom.
