The departments are the only ones in Ocean County to win shares of the $2,500,000 allocations under the auspices of acting New Jersey Attorney General John Hoffman.

Most of the 176 agencies that applied after the summertime announcement of funding received the full amounts they sought, accroding to Hoffman's office.

Twenty-one Monmouth communities and 17 in Burlington County also qualified for part of the funding which is rooted in forfeiture proceeds.

Lakewood is scheduled to receive $50,000. Berkeley Township's share is $36,999. Plumsted receives $1,000 and the Sheriff's Office is given $10,000.

Monmouth grants range from $2,000 for Neptune City to $35,000 for Asbury Park. In Burlington, Mount Laurel receives the most at $30,000. The smallest amounts, $3,000, go to Beverly, Chesterfield and Riverton.

Berkeley Township Mayor Carmen Amato endorsed his community's grant, saying it would "enable our Police Department to purchase and update our current body-worn cameras...I agree with Acting Attorney General Hoffman  - that this 'technology will promote transparency, mutual accountability, and trust between police and the community.'"
