Armando Lima-Vergara, 31, faces counts of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, according to information from the office of Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato.

Investigators said that they opened their probe on August 12, and that Lima-Vergara turned himself in at Lakewood police headquarters on September 30 when he learned that he was wanted for questioning.

According to authorities, Lima-Vergara and the now-12-year-old alleged victim are familiar with each other. They believe that there were multiple instances of abuse.

Lima-Vergara was sent to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River in lieu of $150,000 bail. Judge Wendel Daniels also ordered implementation of Nicole's Law and no contact with the girl.

Detectives also notified the federal Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, though the Prosecutor's office had no information at hand about his country of origin.
