The $2,500,000 grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Admnistration (NOAA) was revealed Tuesday by U.S. Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker (D-NJ) and shore Congressman Frank Pallone (D-6).

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) receives $1,546,532 for capital repairs at the Leonardo Marina, one of five it owns and operates. According to information from Menendez's office, significant damage resulted when onrushing water rose six feet above the bulkhead in October 2012.

The remainder is dedicated to the NJ Fostering Regional Adaptation through Municipal Economic Scenarios (NJ FRAMES), to employ sea-level rise and coastal storm risk projections into local and regional storm-defense plans in the 12-town Two Rivers region of the Navesink and Shrewsbury Rivers.

Communities in the region include Eatontown, Fair Haven, Little Silver, Monmouth Beach, Ocean Township, Oceanport, Red Bank, Rumson, Sea Bright, Shrewsbury, Tinton Falls and West Long Branch.

In prepared comments, Pallone acknowledged financial relief that the NOAA grant and others offer local governments, "as communities continue to recover from Sandy and take important steps to make our local infrastructure more resilient in the future."
