Looking Back At The Weekend

A little of this and a little of that after a 50-50 weekend which did gives us a spectacular Sunday.

Yesterday was pretty much a perfect 10 and it brought what appeared to be the biggest crowd I’ve seen on the beach in Seaside Park since 4th of July weekend.  This is traditionally a big vacation week and it could help local merchants who mostly have had a somewhat disappointing post-Sandy summer season.

The latest version of the “Boys of Summer” keep winning as Manchester’s 14-year old All-Stars beat a team from Middletown, Delaware 8-5 on Sunday in Day #2 of Little League Baseball’s Junior League East Regional Tournament in Freehold.  The New Jersey state champs are now 2-0 in the 10-team tournament after edging Maine 3-2 on Saturday.

Next up is a date with the Pennsylvania state champs today (4pm) in the winner’s bracket of the double elimination tournament.  Manchester is the only team with a 2-0 record.

A totally unscientific conclusion.  You are trying to enter traffic or make a turn and car after car rolls by with nobody willing to stop and let you go.  Who is most likely to show you courtesy?  My answer is adult men, who more often than not are the ones who will end your frustration.

Who is the least likely? Young drivers and older females.  Like I said, unscientific.

So it looks like Alex Rodriguez’s suspension will be the longest ever given in which a lifetime ban was not issued.  Reports indicate the A-Rod or “Aroid” as he’s sometimes called will be suspended through the 2014 season, a total of 214 games.

However it’s expected that Rodriguez will appeal and in what can only be called an ironic twist will make his season debut with the Yankees tonight in Chicago against the White Sox.

Monmouth County beat Ocean County 9-7 in Jim Dowd’s16th Annual Shoot for the Stars Foundation High School All-Star hockey game Sunday night at the Red Bank Armory.  Brendan van Riemsdyk of CBA had the 3-goal “hat trick” to help Monmouth stretch its overall lead in the series to 11-5 as he was named their #1 star of the game.

He’s also the third van Riemsdyk brother to receive an individual award in the game which saw all proceeds benefit The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
