We are heading into what looks like another nice fall weekend with temperatures well into the 60’s but it does appear more fall-like weather will finally set in next week.

Sunday looks perfect for the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Point Pleasant Beach with thousands expected to walk for their wives, mothers, daughters, sisters and friends.  I’ll be strutting for Team Booberang, which is my wife Jane’s group and made up of family, friends and co-workers from Manchester Township High School.  Hope to see you there!

The announcement like so many today came via twitter around 7:30 last night.

“I’m so blessed, thankful, and joyful to announce that I am committed to The Pennsylvania State University! WE ARE.” That tweet came from Southern Regional football standout Mike Gesicki and the timing was perfect as we were on the air with the Investors Bank High School Football Show on the Shore Sports Network. Originally Gesicki was going to make the announcement today but just before show time last night I got a heads-up from Southern Athletic Director Chuck Donohue Jr. that the highly-anticipated decision was coming momentarily.
The 6’6 Gesicki, who many consider the top recruit in the country at his position, selected Penn State over Ohio State, who most recruiting experts considered the favorite. They did not take into consideration the “Williams Factor” as I am 2-for-2 in hounding Ram players into choosing Happy Valley. Gesicki follows ex-Southern star linebacker Glenn Carson, who is a fifth year senior at Penn State.

Nobody would have predicted before the high school football season began that the Central-Barnegat game in week #6 would have major significance but you could argue that it’s the most important game of this weekend. Both teams are a perfect 3-0 in Class B South and the winner takes a huge step towards claiming the divisional title. First-year Central coach Willie Jacobs hopes of an upset might rest on the right arm of senior Marquis Drumright while Bengals coach Rob Davis has a talented group under the direction of lefty Cinjin Erskine. We’ll be broadcasting the showdown in Barnegat tonight on the Shore Sports Network’s 105.7FM.
