A man has died after being struck by a NJ Transit train just north of the Asbury Park train station.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder says the man was struck by a North Jersey Coast Line train that was heading north at about 9 p.m. Monday. She says the man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not identified pending notification of family members.

The Asbury Park Press reports that police and firefighters were called to the train station at Cookman Avenue after getting a report that a person had been struck.

There were about 20 people on board the train. There were no other reports of injuries.

Trains experienced temporary delays after the accident.

Snyder says NJ Transit officials are investigating the incident.
