Alexis Difilippo's mom, Kim Pyne  tells WOBM News, Alexis is doing well after sustaining whiplash and a slight concussion after  colliding with in the second quarter with an opposing player during the Manchester Hawks Pee Wee American Youth Football League team on Sunday.

But the incident has ended Alexis' season. The team captain and defensive end's season was off to a great start, being named an all star during the first game of the season. Her mom says Alexis will root the Hawks on from the sidelines as they head for the playoffs and the chance to defend their division championship. "She will continue to go to all practices and playoff games to see her team through as a captain," said Pyne.

In a statement, Pyne describes what led to her daughter's injury. "Alexis tackled him from behind when they went to the ground some part of the other players uniform became caught up on her helmet causing her head to abruptly twist. She was in and out of consciousness on the field immediately following the collision, was able to only indicate she heard a crack and she was experiencing neck pain."

"It was a challenge to keep her conscious but all of the coaches did an outstanding job. I was on the field with her the entire time as I have spent 20+ years in EMS both in a volunteer and paid capacity," said Pyne.

Alexis is currently recovering at home from her injury. "She is experiencing blurred vision, dizziness and nausea from the concussion. She does have some swelling in the back of the neck as well," said her mother.

Pyne said she and the family are appreciative of the outpouring of support from the team and the community. She also praised Officer Craig from the Manchester Police Department, Quality Medical staff, and the paramedics for their help on the field.
