Lawrence Fascia, 63, faces second- and third-degree counts, the more severe of which would place him at risk of five to 10 years in prison if convicted. He was charged July 19.

According to the office of Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato's office, federal authorities received an anonymous tip about Fascia's internet activity, which was forwarded to the Prosecutor's High Tech Crime Unit (HTCU). FBI and HTCU belong to the Innocent Images Initiative Task Force.

Authorities allege that Fascia and others traded salacious images of pre-puberty chilldren in sex acts with adults. A search of his home turned up what they describe as thousands of graphic images, and evidence of e-mail exchanges.

Citing severe health problems, Fascia was ordered to undergo home confinement, wear a tracking bracelet on his ankle until trial, and comply with bans on use of the Internet, computers and electronic devices.

Superior Court Judge Wendel Daniels originally set his bail at $25,000, with no option for release on payment of 10 percent.

The Prosecutor's Office reminds that charges are accusations, and that defendants are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
