Marianne’s Blog: ‘Ugly’ Dogs?

I just read this article on the World's Ugliest Dog Contest, and I have to say,  I think this is one of the cruelest and shameful contests that are held.

I think it is cruel to exploit these poor animals because of their deformities for the owners' personal gain.

The response from some of the owners is that they do this to help defray some of the costs for vet bills. One "contestant's" owner said it was "to build the dog's self esteem."

Excuse me ? A dog's self esteem ?? That dog doesn't know it's ugly! You think he looks in the mirror every morning and says "OMG !! I'm a total mess!"

Maybe I wouldn't have object to this as much if they changed the name of the contest to the most UNIQUE Dog ! Ugly is a HARSH word!
