The discovery of marijuana plants in Bayville apparently stems from a separate issue that first drew Berkeley Township police.

A source with knowledge of the investigation confided to WOBM that officers responding to a domestic disturbance report uncovered what was called "a few plants."

The number of plants was enough to draw investigators of the Ocean County Prosecutor's and Sheriff's offices, and, according to the Asbury Park Press, the Department of Environmental Protection's emergency response unit.

News 12 reported that officers were summoned for an alleged restraining order violation. Early-afternoon reports of explosion sounds in the area of the house circulated through Ocean County.

It's the second sizeable drug-related incident in the Berkeley Township enclave in as many days. Eight suspects were arrested early Wednesday in a Grand Central Parkway house, where police said they found heroin, cocaine, crack, and a portable meth lab.

This is a developing story. We will provide updates as they become available.
