Toni A. Marletta, 50. was sentenced today in Freehold for her guilty plea in connection with the death of Marissa Procopio of Atlantic Highlands, according to information from County Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni's office.

In addition to her seven-year term for knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a fatality, Marletta was handed a concurrent four-year sentence for endangering the welfare of the three 16-year-old passengers in her car, a concurrent six months for lacking car insurance, and loss of her driver's license for a year for leaving the scene.

Marletta pleaded guilty in September of this year to the charges related to the incident on the night of July 7, 2015. The victim lingered until the next day at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

Local and county investigators determined that Procopio was hit while crossing the highway near Avenue D. Police pursuing the investigation found Marletta's car later that night, and said that it exhibited damage consistent with the crash.

Marletta appeared at Middletown Police headquarters, and was released during the probe. She was charged eight days after the incident.

Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Meghan Doyle headed the State's case. Marletta was represented by Little Silver attorney Peter M. O'Mara.
