Midmorning House Blaze Quelled in Toms River

A fire that broke out during the morning rush in Toms River is brought under control within an hour by township firefighters.

Police say that dense smoke and spurting flames marked the blaze in the back of a house at 1714 Old Freehold Road. It was reported at about 9:17 AM.

According to authorities, the house was unoccupied except for four dogs that firefighters rescued from the flames. The fire was declared under control by 10:14 AM.

Volunteer firefighters from the Pleasant Plains, Silverton, East Dover and Toms River Companies 1 and 2 responded.
