Missing Barnegat Man Surfaces in Mercer County

The Barnegat 77-year-old who took off in his Kia Sedona last night and vanished has been found safe and healthy across the Mercer County line in Hamilton Township.

Concern over Werner Dirr's whereabouts grew in light of his battle with early-stage Alzheimers, say police who issued a Silver Alert last night.

Police Lieutenant Keith Germain said that an alert driver, aware of the alert, spotted the sedan and called authorities. Dirr was intercepted on an offramp from Route 195.

Authorities supplied no details on where Dirr appeared to be headed, or what his reasoning was for leaving.
