Bridget Cutler, who was a new mother at the time, started the charity after reading about a mother, who gave up her child for adoption because she could not afford to make ends meet.

Cutler began collecting gently used essential baby items in the hopes of donating them.

When Cutler did not find the type of organization she was looking for, she launched her own initiative and began distributing the items.

The foundation has continued to get bigger each year since its inception.

"We have provided hundreds of families facing financial distress with free essentials for their babies, including things like diapers, wipes, clothing," Cutler said. "We've helped about 400-500 children in the last almost four years."

Mothers and families are referred to Moms Helping Moms by various social organizations. The growth in popularity has led to more volunteers and an expansion into a bigger facility, which means they can now serve more than 30 families each month.

Cutler is optimistic they can eventually triple that number.

"There are enough things out there, in terms of clothing and baby gear to go around," she said. "No family should have to struggle to buy these things."

On Saturday, January 31, the Moms Helping Moms Foundation holds its first annual Snow Ball fundraiser, featuring the popular Jersey Shore band, Brian Kirk and the Jirks. The event takes place at the River View Banquet Center in Berkeley Heights.

"It should be a really fun night. We hope as many people come as we can fit in there," Cutler said.

All proceeds will go towards the continued operation of the all-volunteer foundation.

"Our goal is that no family in this state, and eventually in this country, should have to struggle to provide their family with the basic essentials."
