A Monmouth County-based charity seeks the help of fellow New Jerseyeans to help put him over the top in winning a $1 million dollar Chase Bank American Giving Awards Grant.

Move For Hunger“Move For Hunger”, founded by Adam Lowy, owner of Lowy’s Moving Service in Neptune, is one of five finalist in the Chase Community Giving Contest on Facebook. Lowy says his charity addresses the hunger crises in the U.S. “The fact of the matter is, one in six Americans do not have enough to eat. Almost 17 million children are going to bed hungry every single night.”

Lowy explains how the charity works. “When people move they’re throwing away tons of stuff. So what we do is get movers to ask their customers everyday for any unopened nonperishables they’re not going take with them. The mover then picks this up and brings it to their local food bank.” Lowy says they have 200 movers in 36 states participating. He says in two years they’ve delivered 360-thousand pounds of food.

Lowy says if they win the grant they can deliver even more food and expand its programs and staff.

However, Lowy needs your vote on Facebook from December 1st to December 8th. He says participants can vote once a day every single day. He directs you to their web site to find out instructions, facebook.com/moveforhunger or facebook.com/ChaseCommunityGiving.

Lowy says the winner will be honored at the first ever American Giving Awards hosted by 22-time Emmy Award-winning Sportscaster Bob Costas on NBC, Saturday December 10th at 8 p.m.
