Food trucks and nice weather couldn't bring large crowds to Monmouth Park over the Memorial Day weekend.

The Asbury Park Press reported wagering was down 32 percent compared to Memorial Day weekend in 2015. $2,264,176 was bet in 2015 while $1,519,687 was put down by customers this past weekend, according to the report.

In addition, only $7.7 million was bet on Monmouth races around the country this year versus $15 million in 2015, a drop of 51 percent. The newspaper said Monmouth ran 35 races in 2015 but 29 in 2016 during the long weekend.

Dennis Drazin, adviser to the group that now runs Monmouth Park, told the newspaper he blames a decision to keep casino gambling away from Monmouth Park.
