The blue skies and dry weather will continue, although temperatures and humidity will creep upward by the weekend.

Here are your weather headlines for Tuesday, August 23, 2016...

Another Spectacular Day

In a welcome change of pace, New Jersey enjoyed beautiful weather on Monday, thanks to the arrival of high pressure and falling humidity. High temperatures across the state ranged from 71 at High Point to 84 in Cape May.

Perhaps the best impact of our bone-dry atmosphere comes in the form of refreshing, cool temperatures on this Tuesday morning. A few thermometers located in the high elevations of Warren and Somerset counties briefly fell into the upper 40s. Most of the Garden State felt temperatures in the 50s, all-around the coolest morning since late June.

Sunny skies will once again fuel pleasantly warm temperatures on Tuesday, topping out in the lower 80s. That is right around or just below normal for late August. (Normal high at EWR, TTN, and ACY for Tuesday is 83.) Monday's stiff breeze is gone. However, the lighter ambient wind will allow the sea breeze machine to fire up Tuesday, keeping the Jersey Shore a bit cooler than further inland. I expect air temperatures at the beach to be limited to the 70s Tuesday afternoon. Ocean water temperatures are still mostly in the 70s.

Temperatures and Humidity Creep Upward

As the expansive area of high pressure shifts off-shore, our winds turn southerly through Wednesday and Thursday. That will fuel a warmup as the week presses on, along with a bump in humidity and cloud cover. Wednesday's highs will reach the mid 80s, while upper 80s will be possible for Thursday. It'll still be pleasant and dry, with mostly to partly sunny skies.

Slight Chance of Rain and Heat

Our next weather-maker will be a weak cold front that will arrive on Friday. By that point, we'll need the influx of slightly cooler and drier air, as high temperatures on Friday will be pushing into the lower 90s for part of New Jersey. Dew points will also return to the 70s on Friday, potentially pushing heat index ("feels like") temperatures close to 100 degrees once again. Again, this return of heat and humidity will only be temporary.

Additionally, that cold front will bring a chance for showers to the Garden State. But it's only a slight chance of showers, centered over North Jersey. Forecast rain totals are only in the 0.01" to 0.13" range - that's not much at all. Furthermore, it is wholly possible that central and southern New Jersey remain completely dry for the next 7 to 10 days.

The weather forecast for the final weekend of August looks very good, as afternoon temperatures scale back to the 80s for both Saturday and Sunday. For now, I'll keep skies mostly to partly sunny for the weekend, and there's no rain threat to worry about. However, I am concerned about the easterly (on-shore) component of the wind - that could increase the cloud cover, especially over the Jersey Shore.
