MRSA Case Reported In Wall School

The Wall Township School District has sent a letter out to parents and employees saying that the Primary School has one identified case of MRSA, which is an anti-biotic-resistant type of staph infection.

According to the letter, which WOBM News obtained through the school district web site, Interim School Superintendent Stephanie Bilenker says they have extra cleaning crews at the building armed with a heavy duty cleaner to kill the bacteria.  All exterior and interior surfaces will be thoroughly scrubbed.  They started yesterday afternoon and will continue this morning.

In the letter, Bilenker quoted some tips from the Centers for Disease Control on how to prevent the spread of MRSA infections.

1)  Keep your hands clean by washing with soap and water

2)  Clean after athletic workouts and contact with other players

3)  Utilize hand sanitizers when soap and water aren’t available

4)  Wash your clothes in hot water and dry them in a hot dryer

5)  Sanitize athletic equipment after use

6)  Keep open wound’s well covered

7)  Never share or barrow towels, razors, soaps or other personal items

At this point, the school remains open and officials say parents should not worry.  They are working on this matter and believe it was an isolated incident.

The last case of MRSA in the district was at the high school in February.
