Murder Charged in Beating Death of Brick Grandmother
A Brick woman accused of beating her 94-year-old grandmother to death is now facing a murder charge.
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office upgraded the charges for Katherine Schubert, 37 following the death of victim Mary Francis Driscoll on Saturday, a week after she was found slumped over her bed in the home she shared with Schubert.
The autopsy on Driscoll concluded that her death was the result of head trauma and the manner of death to be homicide.
Schubert was first charged with aggravated assault and held in the Ocean County Jail on $150,000 cash bail which is now set at $750,000.
Prosecutors said Schubert’s mother Michele Schubert went to Driscoll's home on Sunday, May 18 after she was unable to contact her daughter or mother for two days. When she entered the home with a friend of her daughter’s, they found Schubert “highly intoxicated” and the grandmother slumped over a bed in her bedroom.
The elderly woman had suffered multiple injuries, including brain bleed, blood shot eyes and multiple bruising and lacerations.
