UPDATE: Sources confirm that Neptune Township Police Sgt. Phil Seidle shot and killed his divorced wife moments before threatening to take his own life.  Seidle eventually surrendered following the incident which took place around 11:30AM in Asbury Park.

Seidle is currently in custody, but charges have not been made public.

Police have arrested an off-duty Neptune Township police officer after he allegedly shot his estranged wife on an Asbury Park Street Tuesday morning, according to a report on NJ.com.

The incident took place just after 11 a.m. in the area of Sewell Avenue. One person was hospitalized. According to the article, residents reported hearing multiple shots fired. When police arrived, they spoke to a man who they believed to be the suspect, in an attempt to disarm him, according to NJ.com.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office announced that it will hold a press conference at 4 p.m., but have not released any additional information.
