The train runs from Penn Station New York and northern New Jersey cities to the shore communities, according to an emailed press release from New Jersey Transit.

The new rail road schedule will operate from June 21 through Sept. 12.

Transportation Commissioner and NJ Transit Chairman Jamie Fox said the service not only has economic benefits, but is good for traffic as well.

"It helps take cars off the roadway and boosts tourism and the economy in our shore communities," Fox said.

According to the Department of Transportation, there are about "95 Traffic Volume System (TVS) sites."

The new service gives people a safe and reliable method to get to the beach, the press release stated. Beach-goers can avoid the parkway traffic and spend more time at the beach.

Four round trip trains will be running every two hours between Penn Station in New York and Bay Head from 7 a.m to 10 p.m. Two of the trains will be focused on beach travelers, although any ticket-holder can ride. The other two trains are focused on the early morning and late night time frames.

The express service runs from Penn Station, Secaucus Junction, Newark Penn Station, Elizabeth, Rahway, Aberdeen- Matawan, Red Bank, Long Branch, Asbury Park and stops at Bay Head.

Express trains will be using specialized trains which operates in an electric mode between New York and Long Branch. The trains then switch to diesel for traveling between Long Branch and Bay Head which allows the one seat ride, meaning commuters will not have to switch trains during that leg of the trip.

An approximate travel time of 25 minutes is saved from the normal travel time between New York and trains such as Belmar, Manasquan and Point Pleasant.

The express service will have limited seating. Customers also have the option of purchasing round trip tickets and discounted beach packages to Long branch, Asbury Park, Ocean grove, Bradley Beach and Belmar.

Customers can purchase tickets on njtransit.com/summer or using MyTix mobile ticketing.
