A South Plainfield high school teacher was charged Monday with child endangerment after sending two "inappropriate photos" to a male student via social media, authorities said.

Mallory Christ, 29, of South Plainfield allegedly sent the two photos of herself to a student sometime in February 2016, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.

Authorities say the investigation began after school officials learned about the photos, which they say were sent via social media to the male student. The school contacted police and Christ, who had been a teacher at the high school for two years, was placed under arrest and charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

Christ worked as a math teacher at South Plainfield High School, according to authorities. She taught algebra classes to high school juniors and also taught math to the senior class. In addition, police say Christ was a cheerleading coach at the school.

Prior to working for the South Plainfield School District, police say Christ worked as a teacher at Sayreville War Memorial High School.

Christ is being held without bail at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick, authorities say.

Police did not give any additional information about the student or his age.

Authorities are continuing the investigation and ask that anyone with information call  Det. Clifford of the South Plainfield Police Department at 908-755-0700, or Det. De La Cruz of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-3300.
