A Bridgewater man was sentenced to 55 years in state prison in connection with the 2013 murder of his estranged wife, authorities announced Thursday.

Timma Kalidindi, 50, will have to serve 46 years and 9 months of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole, prosecutors say. He was found guilty of first degree murder and third degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose on April 14, 2016 by a jury in Somerset County jury. The trial lasted seven days, authorities say.

According to authorities, Bridgewater Township police were called to a residence on Francis Drive on Nov. 14, 2013 at about 7:48 p.m. for reports of screaming and loud noise coming from part of the home. When officers arrived, Kalidindi met them at the front door and surrendered.

Once inside, police say they found Janaki Dantulury, 43, unconscious with no pulse. According to authorities, the woman had a braided rope wrapped around her neck and attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful. Emergency medical crews arrived and transported her to a hospital where prosecutors say she succumbed to her injuries two days later.
