NJ Natural Gas Reports Progress Replacing Lines, Meters
New Jersey Natural Gas reports progress in replacing lines and meters in Ocean & Monmouth counties affected by superstorm Sandy.
The company says on the barrier islands they have replaced 2,275 feet, 48 percent, of their damaged 12 inch main running from Bayhead to Seaside Park described as the “backbone” of their system. “Our crews have completed the plugging and capping of all meters, and are retiring individual services where required; both of these steps are necessary for the re-pressurization of our system, which is scheduled to begin December 3,” said NJ Natural Gas in a statement.
Progress has been also made on Long Beach Island with the line re-pressurized and service restored to 88% of their affected customers. They expect the heavily damaged Holgate section to be restored by Monday.
Inland gas is now available to 10,351 of their affected customers’ meters, with 4,536 turned back on. Approximately 17,250 meters were affected by Sandy.
In Monmouth County, a damaged main along First Avenue in Manasquan has been replaced, restoring service to 35% to their affected customers.
