TRENTON — The second round of PARCC test scores are out and there is improvement from most New Jersey schools.

Overall, students in grades three through 11 across the state who took the test in the spring show increases in passing rates. Almost half of students taking the test went up a full tier in their performance, according to NJ Spotlight.

Students are getting used to taking the PARCC tests, which is one reason cited by deputy commissioner of education Peter Schulman for the improvement.

"There’s genuine anxiety and nervousness when you switch to something new. As we get into a second year, a lot of that is dissipating," Schulman told NorthJersey.com.

Big differences remain in the results of students from low-income and high-income families, which Shulman called "just staggering" according to NorthJersey.com.

PARCC testing will be part of the requirement for graduation starting with the class of 2021, although several groups have filed suit to stop the requirement.

The state Assembly voted in October to remove PARCC testing from teacher evaluations.

The next round of PARCC testing begins after Thanksgiving for high school students.
