NJ Transit's mobile app now allows commuters to pay for bus fare on certain routes.

“Customers have told us how much they love the ease and convenience that mobile apps provide. We are very excited to offer this latest expansion of the mobile app as it gives our bus customers the ability to purchase tickets for their New York/New Jersey interstate travels," NJ Transit Interim Executive Director Dennis Martin said.

This affected bus routes are No. 126 between Hoboken and New York,  No. 156 (Englewood Cliffs, Fort Lee and New York), No. 158 (Fort Lee, Edgewater and New Yok) and No. 159 between Fort Lee and New York.

The app already had allowed people to buy monthly bus passes and train tickets.

About 800,000 commuters have downloaded the app since it was first introduced for iPhone and Android devices in 2013.

The upgrade also let customers use PayPal as a form of payment.
