NEW YORK - A broken rail is to blame for NJ Transit delays on Wednesday morning.

"We have a broken rail in one of the four tubes that make up the East River Tunnel. Long Island Rail Road, Amtrak and NJ Transit trains are all experiencing delays but the most significant impact is definitely to LIRR. Obviously the morning rush hour has been difficult but crews are on the scene working to make repairs," Amtrak spokesman Craig Schultz said.

Trains in and out of Penn Station were delayed by 30 minutes.

The tunnel is used by NJ Transit to turn trains around in the Sunnyside Yard in Queens for the return trip to New Jersey.

"We should have everything back up and running later this morning," Schiltz said.
