An overturned tanker truck hauling gasoline caught fire on the ramp from the southbound  New Jersey Turnpike to the Garden State Parkway sending a large black plume of smoke into the air and closing the exit ramp.

The truck lane ramp  is expected to remain closed until Wednesday morning as the it needs to be repaved and a guard rail repaired according to New Jersey Fast Traffic.

The fire was put out about within an hour and  the ramp from the car lanes reopened. New Jersey Fast Traffic's Tom Rivers reports that delays developed at the next exit,  #10 in Edision for Interstate 287 with multi-mile delays exiting from the truck lanes as an alternative to get to the Parkway. I-287 southbound was also backed up to Piscataway.

New Jersey State Police tweet that the driver of the truck has been severely burned and is being taken to the hospital via medical hospital.

The circumstances of the accident that took place around 1:45 p.m. are not yet known.

CBS New York reports the incident has sparked several brush fires along the roadway.
