It continues to be one of my pet peeves and while I should learn some patience I simply can’t get over this.  Why should any transaction at a drive-thru take long when it’s designed for convenience and not confusion?

Let’s start with my personal favorite (or least favorite) example and that is Dunkin’ Donuts.  I simply want a cup of coffee but somehow manage to get stuck behind those who read off a complicated list of Coolatta’s and Iced Lattes which of course take a bit longer to prepare.

I can understand that but the back-breaker is having a Mom survey her van full of kids on each individual donut they want to fill up a box of 12.  “Sorry Julie they are out of marble frosted donuts. What would you instead?”  I love Dunkin’ Donuts but at some point can’t you tell people to come inside so we can move the 10 cars waiting behind Frozen Dunkaccino Mom.

Let’s move on to any fast food restaurant. You take your pick.  You’re getting something simple, maybe an iced tea or a quick sandwich.  You see there is only one car in front of you so you opt for the drive thru.  However you know you’re in trouble when the server greets that person in front of you with “can I take your order” and the response is “one minute please.”

I understand some fast food restaurants have more complex menus and it may take a bit longer to sort through an assortment of Gorditas and Chalupas then let’s say cheeseburgers and chicken fingers.  However, we’re not talking about a diner with 75 items and 5 daily specials. Again, the drive thru is supposed to be for convenience.

My wife wanted an iced tea last week on the way to the beach and we somehow got behind a person who contemplated her menus choices for a longer period then I would at Chef Mike’s ABG.  You can’t make this stuff up.

Finally, there’s the drive-thru windows at any bank and this one should be easy.  If the bank is open and you have any transaction that requires more than a couple of minutes then the teller should require you to go inside and take care of your business.  What is worse than one person holding up the entire line because they are having a problem with a check?   I mean, should not common sense take over at some point?

That’s my morning rant.Have a nice day!  I’m going to Dunkin’ Donuts for a coffee!
