Dennis Myers, 36, of Pittsgrove, was apprehended Thursday for an alleged incident that began to develop about five months ago, according to the office of Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato.

The victim told authorities that she met Myers through social media in September 2015. Investigators allege that Myers kept communicating regularly with her and planned a rendezvous in Manchester for January 2016.

Detectives intervened and arranged for a meeting at the Toms River bus terminal on January 7. Instead of finding the girl, Myers encountered two detectives and later was interviewed a short distance away at the Prosecutor's Office.

Myers was charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, and placed in the Ocean County Jail on bail of $75,000, with  no option for release on a 10-percent payment.

Authorities also implemented Nicole's Law to prevent contact between the suspect and victim.
