Plumsted crash victim identified, probe continues

Investigations continue into Monday's head-on crash between a car and a big rig in Plumsted that left a Millstone teen dead. 

Alexander Pannizzo, 18, was the passenger in the 1995 Chevy Camaro Z28 driven by Dylan Magee, 19, also of Millstone. He was the only one of three people involved who didn't survive.

The two were southbound on Route 539, en route to Stockton University in Galloway, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

Investigators said that at about 9:49 AM, the car veered across the dividing line, into the path of the tractor-trailer driven by Norman Bird, Jr., 73, of Allentown, NJ.

Pannizzo was pronounced dead at the site at 10:53 AM. Magee was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Bird was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Hamilton Hospital.

Plumsted police, detectives of the Prosecutor's Office and members of the Ocean County Sheriff's CSI team are still completing the probe.

It's the second road death on the notoriously treacherous highway within one week. A late-summer driving-safety initiative by the Prosecutor's Office ran for an entire month with no fatalities.
