I clearly have early stages of post-Super Bowl Funk which is also called the off-season.

Like many, football season is without question my favorite time of year and a wonderful diversion to the reality of everyday life. If you’re a big fan you build your weekends around football, especially in the fall when you have high school games on Friday, college games Saturday and of course the NFL on Sunday.

You likely make deals with your wife or girlfriend just so you’re home in time on Sunday to watch Scott Hanson show you the first score of the day on the NFL Network’s Red Zone channel. Home projects get put on hold or you find that window of time to do them just after you finalized your fantasy lineup and before kickoff. Sundays are sacred and you justify spending them in your favorite chair because of what you had to do during the other days of the week.

Football season is truly wonderful, starting with the heat and humidity of late summer, through fall with the leaves changing colors and days getting cooler and shorter. If you’re lucky your favorite team and your fantasy squad are still playing meaningful games in December and your best Christmas present just might be that your team is headed to the playoffs.

While some get depressed after the holidays you know there’s still weekends of big games to come while at the same time realizing that each Sunday means the ends is getting closer. The last real great football day is the AFC/NFC Championship doubleheader because in truth the Super Bowl is more for the bandwagon jumpers and those who talk during the game but tell you to be quiet during the commercials.

So now it’s all over and there’s nothing to look forward until March Madness which is pretty great. There’s the opening of the baseball season and of course the NBA & NHL but the truth is now is when your spouse cashes in on all those Sundays of false promises and projects you put off.

Sure you’re okay spending quality time at say Home Depot looking at paint charts or visiting relatives you’ve blown off for months but the truth is it’s not quite the same excitement of an NFL Sunday. By the way, Valentine’s Day is coming up and if you do it right you’ll be okay to watch the NFL Draft; it starts on Thursday, April 30th…can’t wait!
