I think we can all agree that many so-called celebrities have inflated opinions of themselves and that really comes out during election season.  Why would anyone care what a musician, actor, comedian or even pro athlete says when it comes to their thoughts on who we should elect?

Unfortunately their opinions do seem to garner interest from the media as well as some of their devoted fans. Frankly I’m turned off by the fact that anyone pays attention.

I think it first surfaced during one of George W. Bush’s two successful runs for the presidency.  Alec Baldwin might have been the first who threatened to move out of the country if Bush was elected although the award-winning actor later denied it.

Others who said they would consider moving elsewhere included director Robert Altman, rocker Eddie Vedder, country music singer Loretta Lynn, writer/actor Ben Stein, actors Martin Sheen and Matt Damon and others.  After Bush won by the way most of them said they really didn’t mean it or something like that.

So here were are a few years later and the list of well-known people who have at least floated the idea of bolting the country over a presidential election is growing.

Of course the subject of their dissatisfaction is Donald Trump who will be the Republican nominee in November and likely face off against Hillary Clinton.  The most recent Trump-bashers are Johnny Depp and Lena Dunham but there are plenty of others who might update their passports for an unplanned move like Miley Cyrus, Whoopi Goldberg, Samuel L. Jackson, Jon Stewart, Raven-Symone’, Rosie O’Donnell and the Rev. Al Sharpton.

To be honest I don’t see their departures as a negative. Heck if might even help Trump get elected.  By the way the country of choice for the majority is Canada but if you want to move there you must marry a Canadian, invest in a business, study or apply through the regular points program.  Otherwise, Canada only allows Americans to spend six month as tourists.
