Just a few quick hitters for today.

There are plenty of new TV shows this season and I like some of them but my personal fall favorites are still “Homeland”, “The Good Wife”, “Boardwalk Empire” “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Modern Family” and “Parenthood” which manages to leave a lump in my throat just about every week.

There are plenty of Yankee fans who don’t have high regard for manager Joe Girardi but even they have to give credit where credit is due.  Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the 9th to Baltimore last night, Girardi sent Raul Ibanez up to pinch-hit for future Hall of Famer Alex Rodriguez who was 1-12 with 7 strikeouts in the series.  Ibanez made the move pay off with a game-tying home run and then sent Yankee fans into a tizzy three innings later with another homer to win the game and move the guys in pinstripes to within a win of advancing to the American League Championship Series.  Game #4 tonight and I would imagine most Yankee fans will miss the Vice Presidential debate.

Cincinnati Reds rookie Todd Frazier of Toms River had an up-and-down day while making his first-ever postseason start.  The 26-year old drew a bases-loaded walk and collected an RBI in his first at-bat but they went 0-3 after that with two strikeouts in a loss to San Francisco.  Frazier did play well at third base but will be back on the bench today when the Reds host the Giants in the fifth and deciding game of their series.  Here’s hoping the season does not end for the former Toms River South and Rutgers star today.

The High School Football season gets off to an early start tonight when Class B South leader Monsignor Donovan visits winless Pinelands Regional.  The game was moved from Friday because the Eucharistic Congress will take place tomorrow at the PNC Bank Arts Center.

Tonight on the Barnabas Health High School Football Show we’ll talk with Point Beach coach John Wagner and senior lineman Quinn Kusma, Coach Vince Casale of Central Regional and senior co-captain Blake Jambor and Colts Neck coach Greg LaCava.  The show airs on 105.7FM at 7pm and is broadcast live at Baker’s Water Street Grill in Toms River.
