Report: Sweeney Will Make Run For Governor If Booker Doesn’t [VIDEO]

Senate President Steve Sweeney will make a run for Governor in 2013 if fellow Democrat Cory Booker stays on the gubernatorial sidelines.

The Star Ledger reports that Sweeney has quietly started preparing for a possible run including the hiring of Sean Kennedy, described on his Linkedin page as a "senior advisor" to Sweeney. He is currently Associate Executive Director for  NJ Senate Democrats.

Sweeney also sent out emails over the Thanksgiving holiday with video clips of a speech he made at the Building One New Jersey dinner.

Titles of the clips include 'I Know What It's Like to Be Unemployed," "We Can Do This Together" and "Can Anyone Tell Me Why Millionaires Can’t Contribute Just a Little Bit More?"

Booker has promised to make a decision soon although he said at a joint event with Governor Christie earlier this month in Newark that Hurricane Sandy delayed the process.

In a Rutgers-Eagleston poll Christie handily beats Booker by 21%. The poll also tested matchups against Assemblyman Lou Greenwald, Senator Barbara Buono and former acting Governor Richard Codey but not Sweeney.

Christie announced his intention run on Monday at an event in Port Monmouth.
