Its all riding on Revel Atlantic City.

There are about 47 million adults within a six-hour drive of Atlantic City, yet about 40 million of those don’t consider A.C. to be an option, said Dr. Israel Posner, a gaming analyst at the Lloyd D. Levenson Institute of Gaming, Hospitality and Tourism at Stockton College.

“What Revel will do is introduce to the entire East Coast a new world class destination where they can get away for two or three nights.”

He said typically if residents wanted this type of experience they had to get on a plane and head to Florida or Las Vegas.

“There is nowhere else where this kind of mega-resort exists in the entire country and its a short drive for many people thinking about a quick trip away.”

But, the question remains, will Revel change the game or further take away revenue from already stressed properties.

Posner says Revel will change the landscape of Atlantic City in a different way by tapping into a new market and attracting the leisure traveler, concert goer and nightclub patron in addition to the avid gambler.

“To stay competitive other casinos are going to have to make some big investments. I don’t think just lowering rates will do enough to attract new customers and I really don’t think that’s a good idea in this market.”
