A ribbon-cutting is set for April 19 at West End Avenue to officially celebrate the opening of the rebuilt Long Branch Boardwalk, expected to be completed ahead of schedule and before the New Jersey Marathon on May 1, according to Wordontheshore.com.

The $14.4 million dollar project to make the new boardwalk wider began in June, 2015. The initial completion date was slated for Memorial Day.

The boardwalk will include three pavilions with concession stands and bathrooms, and 10 beach access points from Brighton to Morris Avenues, including four that will be handicap accessible.

Howell-based George Harms construction still has to finish paving Ocean Avenue and finish other detail work, but Borough officials told Wordontheshore.com the boardwalk is 90 percent complete.
