New Jersey Education Commissioner Christopher Cerf told a Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee in the Meadowlands about the response to Sandy,  "We are not waiving the rule and do not intend to waive the rule in an across-the-board way," he said. He noted the department may make exceptions in "extreme circumstances,' said Serf according to the Star Ledger.

Cerf said her favors districts making up days lost during scheduled days off instead of Saturday because classes may only be held for a minimum of 4 hours.
