It has not been confirmed, however, if the boat is the El Jefe, the 40-foot commercial trawler the U.S. Coast Guard identified as the sinking vessel reported by another boat.

The discovery was made as helicopters, boats and dive teams returned to the Sandy Bay Channel on Wednesday morning to continue the search, according to State Police. The NYPD special operations dive team used side scan sonar overnight to try and locate the 40-foot boat, according to the Coast Guard.

Debris believed to be from the boat was found by the New Jersey State Police Marine Unit along with some oid, State Police have said. Footage taken by 7 ABC's helicopter also showed a life ring and cooler floating in the water just north of the beach at Sandy Hook.
