Seaside Rebuilds Once Again After Fire [AUDIO]

For the first time in decades, nothing separates the beaches of Seaside Heights and Seaside Park and its respective communities.

While it took months to clean the debris left over from a treacherous boardwalk fire, the boroughs now look towards rebuilding once again.

Three months since the fire ripped through roughly 1,000 feet of boardwalk, destroying 68 businesses, both boroughs are starting recovery.

Seaside Heights spokesperson Michael Gracian says next week that pilings and boards will be laid up until Porter Avenue.

While the fire cost $5 million to clean-up, paid for mostly through Sandy relief funds, Gracian is optimistic everything will be back up and running come Memorial Day.

“There’s no question in our mind that we’ll be ready for Memorial Day, we’ll probably be ready before Memorial Day,” he said.

For a community still largely recovering from Superstorm Sandy, rebuilding from yet another disaster almost s routine.

“It seems that we’re pretty well attuned to disasters and we just got down to work.” Said Gracian, who assures the boardwalk will be reopen in time for summer, just like it was last year.

In fact, Gracian said, an equally large task will be spreading the message that they will be fully open for business this summer. It’s a challenge the area struggles with once again after it saw a drop of tourism in the 2013 season, much of which was attributed towards people’s apprehension about the area post-Sandy.

“Hopefully what we’re trying to do is make sure that the people who did not come to Seaside last year, for whatever reasons, will come back.”
