Sharing Word Of Sadness, Wisdom & Opinion

I just sit here some mornings staring at my computer’s keyboard and wondering what it is I want to say.  What words of wisdom, sadness, joy, information, opinion, and frivolity do I share with you?

Brandon Holt

Today I could talk about gun control and how the issue has come close to home in the wake of the shooting death of 6-year old Brandon Holt of Toms River.  The first-grader at St. Joseph’s Grade School was killed earlier this week in what appears to be an accidental shooting in his neighborhood.  The shooter was a 4-year old friend and the .22 caliber rifle he used was one he took from his house.

Of course we’re all scratching our heads wondering how a 4-year old could gain access to a loaded rifle.  I would guess that in Toms River this morning some opinions about gun control might have changed.  Meanwhile two families have to deal with grief and pain and for one the bright light of youth is extinguished forever.

Today I could offer more thoughts on the sad state of affairs at Rutgers University and how the more I think about it the more I believe former basketball coach Mike Rice and athletic director Tim Pernetti got raw deals.  I know. I saw the video but I continue to see a rush to judgment that is largely due to the media’s new role as judge, jury and executioner.

Just once I like to see someone stand up to all the talking heads and holier than now columnists and say “back off.”  But they don’t because in truth they are gutless and more concerned about their own futures so they quickly throw others under the bus.

I could even chime in on what might be the most anxiously-anticipated Masters in years as we truly find out if Tiger Woods is back.  Tickets at Augusta are going for thousands of dollars and if Tiger is in the hunt for a fifth green jacket on Sunday than TV ratings will be off the charts.  I certainly hope that’s the case.

Or today I could inform you (courtesy of friend Brian Wilkinson) that Cotton Candy is simply a combination of sugar and air.  It is molten sugar that solidified and cooled while pumped with air.  It was originally called Fairy Floss when it was introduced at the 1904 World’s Fair.  This information is the frivolous portion of today’s segment.

That’s all for now.
