Tomorrow looks like a great day to walk the boardwalk and if you’re a Rutgers alumnus or supporter you might want to join up with a contingent of your fellow Scarlet Knights who will stroll the boards in Lavallette, Ortley Beach, Seaside Park and Seaside Heights.  It’s all part of an initiative this summer in which Rutgers representatives, including student-athletes walk every boardwalk in New Jersey to promote the school and athletic program.

The itinerary has the contingent beginning their walk in Lavallette at 1pm and they’ll go south for just over a mile.  After a stop at Barnacle Bills Arcade on Route 35 its then onto the Ortley Beach boardwalk for a short stroll to the south.  The group of red and white will bus down to Seaside Park and at 3:30 begin walking from 13th Avenue north to Seaside Heights on the boardwalk. Later Rutgers athletics will set up on the boardwalk at Casino Pier from 7-8:30.

By the way it’s been a good stretch for Rutgers alumni with Carli Lloyd leading the U.S. to the Women’s World Cup title and Todd Frazier capturing the Home Run Derby this week.  Frazier by the way went 0-3 in the All-Star game last night which was won by the American League 6-3.  He’ll be back in Toms River to spend a couple of days with his family after flying home on a charter with Millville’s Mike Trout, who won his second straight MVP award after leading off last night’s All-Star game with a home run.  Trout by the way reportedly picked up the tab for the flight.

Final day of practice before Thursday’s U.S. Army All Shore Gridiron Classic at Long Branch High School.  Both the Ocean and Monmouth County teams have had to deal with injury losses and player drops but they’ll be ready for kickoff at 7pm.  We will broadcast the game on NewsTalk Radio WOBM 1160 and  1310   beginning at 6:45 p.m and on the internet at ShoreSportsNetwork.com
